Our aim is to create a novel school campus combines traditional Chinese
school with elements of contemporary Finnish understanding of education, by considering the school as home of student and learning community, which can meet the requirement of the school at the moment, and connect to the future education and provide wider possiblities. And we take the following thinking as the starting point of the school design.
- Joy and play are part of the curriculum
There is an old Finnish saying, those things you learn without joy you will
forget easily. In additional standard classes, various activities, speciall
classes, creative studios and group study/discussion are important for
the time of each student in the school. The joy also extends beyond classrooms to lobby, corridor and yards etc. - Student free time is highly valued
Besides the delicated function rooms, various acrivities, shcu as exhibition, performance, lecture, workshop can be arranged around the school in each lobby, foryer, or even in those wide corridors. - Study is not limited in the school
Study should also be extended after school time. On the premise of ensuring safety, part of the school’s functions will be as open to students and the community as possible, for instance the library and auditorium in this project, we propose they could be used by students and the community during weekend and holidays. - More relaxed atmosphere
We hope to bring the concept of “less stress and more caring” to this project through architecture design. Lounge, lobby, student living room, yard and roof terrace are set up for this purpose in each student group.
This type of environment is also needed by teachers. In the proposal there
are teacher rooms and lounge specially for teacher and staff, where they
can lounge about and relax, preapre for the day or just simply socialize.
